Replacing the Misfit Ray Band

I’ve been using the Misfit Ray for almost two years now. Nothing special about it, honestly, but it’s been steady. At least the company’s still alive after all this time, and the thing still works fine. Then a while back I noticed the band had snapped.

What to do? Well, almighty Taobao had my back. I searched around and, surprise, the original band is gone—only “forgiveness green” third-party ones left.

Bought one and compared it against the original:

  • The color looks better than the original.
  • Build quality is worse. The clasp, for instance—I clipped it on the first day and it fell off at some point without me noticing. Good thing it happened at the office; if it’d popped off on the street I’d have assumed it was lost. I eventually filed the snap down with a small knife to tighten it, and it’s held so far.
  • Forgiveness green really does look good.

One last thought: if you’re in the market for a band like this, get something with a user-replaceable battery like the Misfit Ray. Built-in batteries die way too easily.
