Cooking: Homemade Lamb Skewers

I wanted meat skewers, but they’re too expensive outside, so I ended up making them myself.

Ingredients: lamb/chicken, onion, soy sauce, cumin, salt, sugar, chili powder, Shaoxing wine

  • Cut the lamb into chunks, cut the onion into chunks too. Chicken works, but I like lamb
  • After cutting, mix with the onion, add Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, cumin, salt, sugar, chili powder, stir it up and start marinating
  • Marinate for at least 40 minutes
  • Then take it out and thread the skewers. Remember to alternate fat and lean — or just thread meat if you want. Adding green pepper and onion like I did is fine too
  • Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) top and bottom, put them in and bake. 20 minutes and they’re done — sprinkle cumin and chili flakes and eat

Overall it was decent, but compared to lamb skewers from outside it’s still a bit lacking. I thought about it, and the main reason is: I didn’t use charcoal.

With charcoal you can render the fat into something really fragrant, but it also puts out a ton of smoke.

Maybe I’ll try that another time. At least I got to eat meat skewers, so I’m satisfied.
