FiiO FH1s: First Thoughts

Impressions: FiiO FH1s Hybrid Entry-Level Earphones

After buying FiiO’s Bluetooth over-ear headphones last time and liking them, I’ve finally started buying FiiO earphones too.

The reason I bought this was purely my hands acting on their own. By the time I came to my senses, the order was already placed.

Of course, the main factor in that impulse was the discount being too big to resist. The first-batch preorder was 30 yuan cheaper, with six interest-free installments, plus a free cable if you posted a review. Basically 100 yuan off.

The earphones arrived pretty fast, and unboxing them was full of that typical FiiO “pile on the extras” vibe. It came with a bunch of accessories — a case, a pouch, everything you’d expect.

But what we care about is the earphones themselves. As a certified fat otaku, purple was the obvious choice.

The build quality is beyond reproach. It’s called a hybrid, and I can’t be bothered to dig into that. I’ve heard both balanced armature and dynamic drivers over the years — specs are useless. Trust your ears.

Actually, I’ve had these for over two months now, replacing my old “Han Hong earphones with a balanced cable.” They’ve left me pretty satisfied for a number of reasons. First is the tuning: it’s really, really aimed at “pop.”

What do I mean by “pop”? Basically the mids are pushed way forward, while the highs and lows are somewhat dialed back. Most people listening to pop follow the singer’s voice and rarely pay much attention to the instruments. On top of that, the mids further reduce sibilance. They clearly put a lot into this.

Honestly, there isn’t much to say about these earphones. You just need to look at who they’re for, the price, and the quality itself.

At around 300 yuan, they’re clearly aimed at beginners and students, and the quality at this price is genuinely solid. Great for pop, and it handles ACG too (I think ACG music is basically just pop). It also comes with plenty of accessories, which suits the “I got a deal” mindset of buyers at this price. The cable is replaceable too, so there’s some room to upgrade, and FiiO’s after-sales support is decent. A very reliable product overall.

In other words, if you know someone thinking about spending 300 yuan to try “earphones with good sound,” recommend these without hesitation. You can’t go wrong.

Of course, if they think “boom boom pow” is what good sound means, just send them to Taobao to buy some big brand’s entry-level product.
