Swapping Gateron Low-Profile Red 2.0 Switches into a NuPhy Air 75
Gateron released their new low-profile 2.0 series, claiming longer key travel. A breakthrough, supposedly.
So naturally I had nothing better to do and wanted to try it. Conveniently, my NuPhy Air 75 already runs Gateron low-profile switches, so it’s a straight swap — all you need is a switch puller.
Gateron’s official puller is absurdly expensive, more than a whole set of switches. Unless you’re swapping switches constantly, don’t buy it. The Air 75 ships with one, and that’s plenty.

That’s how the switches arrived. All you do is pull out the old ones and stuff these in. I also lubed them — barely made a difference, wouldn’t recommend.
After all that fiddling every switch was swapped: browns out, Red 2.0 in. The feel change is exactly what you’d expect going from brown to red. As for what the “2.0” actually gets you, I honestly couldn’t tell.
I sold the old browns on eBay, so the whole thing didn’t cost much in the end.
Just a simple switch swap, really. I’ve seen people take mechanical keyboard customization to the point of chasing “silent” or “mahjong tile” sounds — it’s getting more mysticism than engineering.
