Fixing Two Xubuntu 11.10 Annoyances

Been on Xubuntu 11.10 for almost two months now, and it’s great. Unity and GNOME 3 are a joke, but Xfce4 is the last clean sanctuary left.

Two problems so far:

  • Thunar is painfully slow the first time you launch it after every boot

  • Double-clicking the title bar doesn’t maximize/minimize

Here’s how to fix them: (so simple it hurts)

The slow first launch of Thunar happens because Thunar scans network shares and machines on the LAN the first time it starts. Just disable automount and you’re done.

sudo leafpad /usr/share/gvfs/mounts/network.mount

[Mount] Type=network Exec=/usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-network AutoMount=false (change this to false)

As for double-clicking the title bar not maximizing — even easier. In the Xfce4 settings center, just raise the mouse double-click sensitivity.

Two problems that bugged me for this long, solved like an idiot. How embarrassing.
