Review: Lamy Safari

Lamy Safari Lilac Purple Fountain Pen

Buying this was pure impulse — I was ordering one for someone else, saw the color and really liked it, it’s the purple I like, so I grabbed one for myself too.

After ordering on the official site, I found out they also have a Taobao flagship store. And with the official site order, you don’t even know when the hell it’ll arrive, seriously…

Later I asked the official staff on Weibo, and they said the official site is the same as Taobao, nothing to worry about.

The pen supports engraving, but only in English. I got plumlis engraved on it… because I really couldn’t think of anything else. kiritanihaha is too long, hentai is too short.

When it arrived I was struck by how it’s a proper China-market version — the packaging is way better than the blue Alstar I bought on Taobao.

Rumor has it online that plenty of Lamy pens on Taobao are fake, and some are a mix of real and fake — the nib is fake, the pen itself is real, that kind of thing. But I’ve already used a Lamy 2000, and I don’t plan to use this purple one for now either. My handwriting isn’t much to look at, so I’ll leave it sealed for the time being.

Comparing them, though, I found that even though the Safari is plastic and a notch below the metal blue Alstar, the matte surface means it doesn’t look that bad — if anything it looks classier. Only the engraved part is a real shame, I honestly couldn’t tell what it was… look closely and it’s “plumlis.” Damn it, I should’ve picked something shorter.

Last thing, I hope I’ll study hard and learn more. Since I can’t find a girl, I might as well use the time to improve myself.
