This is the quintessential “tell the lyricist and composer we need an OP for some game with such-and-such a theme, you figure it out” situation. fripSide probably had no idea what the game was about — maybe just that it involved “rich girls,” “school,” “angels,” and “summer,” so they stitched lyrics and music together out of those pieces.

Put simply, the lyrics barely connect to the game’s content. Lines like “the angel spreads her wings” feel jammed in, because in the game the rich girl doesn’t have wings and she isn’t the angel anyway. Whatever — the melody’s good, and the lyrics are thoroughly formulaic: I want to see you, I love you, the promise we made that day, never apart, and so on…

Note: 輝り返す: (terikaesu) I’ve noticed a lot of places use 「照り返す」 instead, which means to reflect. 暮らす: (kurasu) to live, one’s days. Honestly… I’ve never managed to remember how this one’s read; I just know that when I see 「暮」 it means dwelling somewhere. (Lazy, I know.) 鮮やか: (azayaka) vivid, and いろあざやか is vivid in color… 確かめ合う: (tashikameau) to confirm together. アジサイ: hydrangea 煌めき: (kirameki) sparkling 吸い込める: (suikomeru) to be sucked in… 決して: (kesshite) never, absolutely not. A lot of places seem to write it けして — Japanese people like writing it that way, but apparently it’s wrong… 溢れ出す: (afuredasu) to overflow. 焼き付ける: (yakitsukeru) to brand something into.
