That wish I was supposed to have granted back when I was little
Where did it go, now that the years have run on past me
The precious feelings I’d lost along the way
Feel so dear to me now, so worth holding onto
Learning how society works from a child’s world, inching closer to adulthood
The more I realize what I lost can’t be replaced, the tighter it aches in my chest
I wander, searching for wherever those faint feelings of back then have gone
I want them back. So I can take them back
These feelings of love, and more of them. Whose were they to begin with?
I’ll take them back. I’ll take them back, just you watch
Calling it a mistake born of childishness
The price was too steep. Now I understand
Is it sin or punishment? Too heavy to carry
An innocent game is what set this reality in motion
The society I learned from a child’s world, and I’m still in the middle of learning
Because I feel that what I lost was something the passing days can’t do without
Where are those faint feelings of back then smoldering now?
I want them back. I have to take them back
These feelings of love, and more of them. I want to shine a light on them and make them glow
I’ll take them back. I’ll take them back, just you watch
I don’t want to give up. I won’t give up
Every person’s own feelings, each one their own
Struggling and writhing in worry: that’s part of growing up too
Each and every one of them is a treasure
I wander, searching for wherever those faint feelings of back then have gone
I want them back. So I can take them back
These feelings of love, and more of them. Whose were they to begin with?
I’ll take them back. I’ll take them back, just you watch
Tip: The lyrics stick right to the plot of Kodomo no Asobi. In the game, the protagonists find a witch as kids and make a wish; one of them hands over their own “feelings of love” in exchange for something else. But the witch takes that “love” and can’t digest it, so once the protagonists have grown up she shows up demanding it be returned. The game’s main plotline is literally “give back the feelings of love,” and that’s what the song’s about too: childhood games causing grown-up suffering, that sort of thing.
The arrangement and composition are by Meis Clauson. All I can say is, for visual novel song arrangement, he’s the one I trust. His melodies and styles are just my taste… I’m a full-on fanboy now.
Note: 喪う (ushinau): same character as “喪” (mourning); here it should be passive, 喪われる. 気付く程に (kizuku hodo ni): to the extent that one notices. 行方 (yukue): whereabouts. 所以 (yuen): cause, origin. 代償 (daishou): price, cost. 背負う (seou): same as the characters suggest, to bear on one’s back. 無邪気 (mujaki): innocent. 何処 (izuko): same as the characters suggest, where. 諦める (akirameru): to give up. もがく (mogaku): to writhe, to struggle internally.
