Installing FeedReader on Ubuntu Linux to Connect to TinyTinyRSS
FeedReader is an RSS reader for Linux that claims to support a bunch of subscription services, including TinyTinyRSS, which I use regularly.
On Ubuntu you can install it from a PPA:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:eviltwin1/feedreader-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install feedreader
Then I hit a problem when I launched it…

Digging through the official GitHub, I found out you also need to install a plugin for TinyTinyRSS.
https://github.com/jangernert/FeedReader/tree/master/data/tt-rss-feedreader-plugin

Clone that directory into TinyTinyRSS’s plugin folder and set it as the default plugin in Config.php.

After that I could log in and use it. The first sync is really slow… no wait, every sync is really slow…
No idea why, but it syncs the starred articles first and the rest just won’t show up; it kept saying it was syncing for ages. The foreign users didn’t report this problem. Whatever, I left it running. Then when I got home in the evening it suddenly told me syncing was done, and I checked the backend and saw a process eating 600MB of RAM. I don’t care much about memory, but it still feels off.

Honestly, it’s feature-complete — even my custom tags got synced over. If it were faster it’d actually be pretty usable… probably.
But then again, do you really need to install a separate app for this? The web page works fine…
