New Linux Telegram build supports custom notifications, and honestly they're pretty cool

Telegram got an update, and the Linux build picked up a genuinely useful feature.

You can reply to messages straight from the notification.

You can also choose whether notifications use the native system style — though native ones obviously can’t do inline replies.

And native notifications have more problems: no sticker support.

So I’d go with Telegram’s own notification style. It lets you customize the top-left/top-right position and the stacking count, which is honestly decent.

For the Linux version just grab it from the official site:

https://desktop.telegram.org/

Unzip it and you’re good to go. That’s how I did it on Ubuntu at first… until I found out…

This thing has a PPA too! What the hell…

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/telegram
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install telegram

With the PPA you don’t have to manually hit Upgrade and fix the permissions yourself anymore.
