Fixing kernel errors on Ubuntu Linux (probably)
Got an error while updating today:

Looks pretty serious… so I went digging.
Turns out it’s an error caused by missing firmware for Intel’s next-gen graphics core Kaby Lake and the one after that, XXX Lake. Of course it might not just be those two — it could also be a Skylake error, and if you’re on Skylake there’s still a way to fix it.
Go here to download the firmware, unpack it yourself and run Bash ./install: https://01.org/zh/linuxgraphics/downloads/skylake-guc-6.1?langredirect=1
As for Kaby Lake and the one after that… someone at Intel said on the mailing list themselves: “we haven’t released it yet, we haven’t finished it, so for now just sit there and look at the error.”
Whatever. Not my problem anyway, I’m still on Broadwell.
