ThinkPlus Lenovo Lipstick Power Adapter

A hot product a while back. It promised “small” “powerful” “multi-functional” all at once, and on top of that it actually looked good, so I bought one.

Also, I’m a sucker for the ThinkPad red-and-black color scheme. Too tempting.

Turns out I’d pre-ordered it ages ago, only to find out it was just a crowdfunding campaign. I don’t know why these idiots insist on crowdfunding everything. Call it a pre-order, slap a new name on it and call it crowdfunding — genuinely stupid.

Anyway, I got the thing in early December, and the packaging was the familiar ThinkPad style.

Opening it up, there’s just a charging head and a cable, nothing else. The box is still the classic red-and-black.

Unlike similar products, the ThinkPlus cable feels sturdier, and it comes with a built-in leather strap for cable management. Tried it out — it’s real leather, feels nice. Credit where it’s due.

Now for the usage impressions. Honestly, what’s there to say about a charger? The internet has plenty on its protocols already, so I’ll just cut to what works and what doesn’t:

  • Switch: works
  • ThinkPad X1 Carbon: works
  • Pixel 3 XL: works, shows Rapid charging
  • OnePlus 5: works, shows normal charging
  • When charging a laptop, the charger emits a high-frequency coil whine. I can hear it, but nobody else in the office can. Maybe they’re all old and their hearing’s degraded?

Overall I’m fairly satisfied, aside from that high-frequency whine. But judging by how that half-witted Xiaomi fanboy Wu Lao’er sneered and tagged me on Twitter to mock me — if you mind the noise, buy the Xiaomi 45W that Miboy Wu Lao’er loves so much. If you don’t mind it and think this looks great, then this one’s fine too. It’s portable, after all.
