Hands-on: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+

I bought a Raspberry Pi before, left it powered on for half a year, and then it just up and died for no reason… Once it died I had no idea how to fix it, and I don’t think it was covered by any warranty, so it just sat there collecting dust. Recently, for certain reasons, I needed a small computer to use as a server. Originally I was thinking of buying one of those recycled thin clients, but with electronics you always buy new rather than old. The server didn’t need high performance anyway, so I just went with the newer Raspberry Pi. The latest Raspberry Pi: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ . Compared with the previous version, the CPU is improved and the network card performance is expanded—it’s now a gigabit NIC! Sure, it’s still routed through the USB bus, but that’s better than not having it, right? The price was fairly low when I got it, and Taobao has all sorts of cheap bundles—basically a simple case and a simple heatsink, but that’s about enough. Actually, when I bought the Raspberry Pi 3, I somehow ended up contacting the Chinese general distributor. This time the distributor just ignored me, saying they don’t accept retail and telling me to find their sub-sellers on Taobao, so I had no choice but to buy on Taobao. It even came with a case that looked like a big gift pack.

ASUS Z10 Tablet

A while back I picked up a piece of junk off Taobao, from the seller I always buy from. It’s an ASUS Z10 tablet. Junk, probably, but in surprisingly good condition.

Review: LG Watch Sport

I’ve had the LG Watch Sport for about a year, and a while back it started acting up. What kind of problem? See for yourself:

Xiaoxiaoyulei XZP Full Adhesive Film

My XZP has been in for repairs a lot lately, and every time it comes back the film is gone… So I have to reapply one, and suddenly there are a lot more options for XZP films now — this “optical adhesive film” kind. I wrote about it before; this time it’s a domestic one called “Xiaoxiaoyulei”, and both the film itself and the optical adhesive are better quality than the Singapore one from before. Still, there are a few things to watch out for when applying it, to raise your success rate:

Review: Pebble Watch 2 Heart Rate Edition

For various reasons my Android Wear watch died. I figured fine, whatever — I never used to wear a watch anyway. But it turns out that suddenly not wearing one threw me off; I kept glancing at my left wrist for the time… so I guess I’m used to wearing a watch now? So I started looking for a temporary replacement, and the budget was definitely low because I’m broke. Eventually I spotted a Pebble Watch 2 Heart Rate Edition on Amazon for a bargain $25. Shipped straight to me, and it wasn’t even hit with customs. Really lucky.

Nvidia Shield K1: First Thoughts

The reason I bought this is still the Pixel C breaking…… Lenovo P8 screen was too stupid, sold it, so I chose a dedicated tablet for gaming, and after looking around, I picked the Nvidia Shield K1. First off, this thing is cheap enough — on Xianyu you can get a 99-new-in-box one for 900 yuan. However, what I got was 99 new with a controller.

Living with Sony Xperia Z Premium

A while back I noticed a bunch of problems with the Sony Xperia Z Premium. First, one of the external speakers stopped working — put simply, only one speaker produced sound. I also found yellow spots along the edge of the screen, maybe a screen issue. Since mine was a China-market unit, I went to Sony after-sales service. This time the Sony service location had moved to the Erqi Square area of Zhengzhou, on Dehua Street. I don’t think I’ve been here in ages… it’s changed quite a bit.

Impressions: Sony WF-1000x Noise Cancelling Earbuds

Ever since I bought the “Noise Cancelling Beans”, I’ve been using them almost every day. Honestly, I’m happy with them. Happy to what degree? Let’s put it this way: I’m even thinking about selling off all my audiophile-mysticism gear, because these are just too convenient. The Beans sound good enough, the battery lasts long enough, and there aren’t many connection dropouts. Apart from a little video latency, they’re more than enough for just listening to music. But a few days ago the Beans pushed out a 2.0 firmware update, said to further improve stability, so I figured I’d just upgrade.

Honor of Kings Da Qiao Figure

There are always people in this world finding ways to piss you off. Like a guy who’s ridiculously handsome, has a loli girlfriend, and spends his days cuddling and going at it, living a shameless life. And yet this same person goes online claiming to be a fat loser otaku, says all women are trash, and — get this — puts on this whole virgin-stench act. How obnoxious is that? Then he plays Honor of Kings, and what’s even more disgusting is he only uses female characters,理由是 they look good. Like some dead gay guy like “Meituan Wang Sicong” who could just play beefcake heroes and rank up, but no, he has to lose streak after streak with the girls. What kind of flex is that? To punish a show-off like this, relying on Zhu Niubi alone won’t do it. You’ve got to take action, like telling him: “Zijing, I bought your wife… ’s figure.”

Living with Subor Retro Game (RS97)

This post has been updated: Check out the new firmware guide and tinkering notes: /archives/9750/ I loved handhelds as a kid, and the habit stuck. I bought a PSV, I bought a Switch, and I still enjoy just holding a handheld and fiddling with it. Recently I was bored, stumbled onto this whole open-source handheld scene online, saw a bunch of crowdfunding projects, and ultimately—because I’m broke—went with the cheap Subor Retro Game (RS97).
