OnePlus 5

Review: Nillkin Tempered Glass Screen Protector

I figure plenty of rich folks, Wu Lao Er included, have already moved on to the OnePlus 7 Pro. Me, I’m still on a OnePlus 5. Though my OnePlus 5 is really my backup phone. It’s fine, honestly. Performance holds up, no reason to replace it. Only the protector I’d stuck on it cracked, so I decided to get a new one. The protector I had on the OnePlus 5 before was from Fangshao. The coating on that one felt weird to me, not smooth enough — probably some knockoff coating from a small factory. Since the Nillkin protector on my Pixel 3 XL feels great and the coating is great too, I decided to give the Nillkin one for the OnePlus 5 a shot. Then I used it and cried.

Nillkin Wireless Charging Receiver: First Thoughts

My daily driver already supports wireless charging, but my old backup phone, the OnePlus 5, still charges the old-fashioned way. In other words, it doesn’t support wireless charging, which just feels wrong. By chance I spotted this thing on eBay:

Review: OnePlus 5

I have two phones. Before, it was a Nexus 6P and a Nexus 5X—one on China Mobile, one on China Unicom. Right now the Unicom one is Sony’s XZP, so for the Mobile line I picked the OnePlus 5. OnePlus 5: OxygenOS leans stock. Snapdragon 835—honestly, at this point if it’s not a Snapdragon 835 I don’t even want to use it. Chinese full-network support, plus warranty. Supposedly the warranty service is good. Build quality is solid. I watched that foreigner’s bend test video—the OnePlus 5’s materials are impressive. Then again, OnePlus has always been a spec-stacking factory. The OnePlus 5 still meets my few requirements for a phone—except the screen… but since it’s a secondary phone I don’t care about the screen. So I bought it.
