Killing the Thermal Throttle on a ThinkPad X1 Carbon
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2017 has a CPU thermal throttle at 75°C. Meaning once your CPU hits 75°C it starts downclocking to keep itself under that line.
Honestly that throttle exists for a reason — laptop lifespan, stability, all that. My old ThinkPad X250 didn’t have one, and the CPU would just sit at 100°C like it was nothing, until the motherboard died once…
But I bought the top-spec i7 model. If this piece of junk throttle is still gimping it, my CPU is basically a cripple. So I had to find a way to kill the throttle.
Besides flashing some modded BIOS, there’s a software route.
