Cooking
Back when I ordered takeout at noon, I always got chicken cutlet rice. But the meat never felt like enough, and it wasn’t even good meat. The cucumber inside was limp and soggy too. Worst of all was the sauce — literally a蜻蜓点水 dab, absolutely no flavor at all.
Then the scummy vendors, to save money on meat, would drizzle a little sauce over the rice so it tastes like something when you eat it. I posted a photo of my takeout on Twitter and got roasted hard. Everyone said it was garbage meat, garbage veggies, that cheap stuff is cooked in gutter oil, no question it’s junk food…
I know it’s junk food, but it’s cheap, and more importantly…
I actually think it tastes great!
So to avoid eating garbage, looks like I’ll have to make a bowl myself. Not just make it myself — I’ll also make up for the takeout’s shortchanged portions and customize the flavor to my own taste.
I’ve made mousse twice now, and honestly the first two weren’t exactly a success. This time I finally got the one I’m happiest with.
For Mid-Autumn Festival I made a few cookie gift boxes and gave them to friends, including the ones I met up with in Beijing.
While everyone else was eating chicken, I went with shrimp.
This isn’t my first time baking shrimp in the oven, but this time I went with something more direct: fresh shrimp, marinated straight up, then straight into the oven, with a sauce on the side. Tastes pretty fresh.
Second attempt. Pretty much the same as the chocolate mousse last time, except the cocoa powder is swapped out for matcha powder.
First time making this. Never done it before, because I only skimmed the recipe and then just went for it.
In the end it tasted okay and it looked the part, but it’s nowhere near a success.
Made this on a whim because I had leftover ingredients to use up.
I based this on a recipe from Xiachufang. This was only my second time baking bread, so I don’t have much experience. The first loaf I baked wasn’t this one — it turned out badly, more like a flatbread…
Lately I’ve had to drag myself out of bed and make breakfast every day, so I’ve worked out a routine that gets it done in 10 minutes.
Got bored of baking standard cookies, so let’s make something different — a knockoff Choco-chip batch.
