apt
Recently I ran into a permission problem on Ubuntu. It shows up when downloading stuff like flash or mscorefronts. I’d been ignoring it all this time, but today I decided ignoring it isn’t great.
Files can’t be accessed by user ‘_apt’, and the permission can’t be dropped for downloading
The fix is simple…
After you install the official Chrome for Ubuntu package, it drops an official repo into your sources.
First off, hitting that address directly is a lost cause…
But add https and it’s a different story.
Even then you still get a warning, if you’re on 64-bit.
A while back, apt-get update started throwing something weird at me:
“The following signatures couldn’t be verified because the public key is not available: XXXXXXX”
My first thought was whether I’d gotten myself MITM’d or DNS-poisoned — the public key just up and vanished?
So I flushed the DNS cache and ran the update again. Same problem.
